On October 16th, 1953, Fidel Castro gave a speech in his own defense while on trial for attempted assassination. He titled this speech 'History Will Absolve Me', and in it he talks about how the people fighting alongside him were "brave comrades, with unprecedented patriotism, [and] did their duty to the utmost". He also points out all the faults in their justice system by saying that his "individual rights were suspended" and that after "repeated orders from the Court, [he] was never again brought to the hearings" even though he was in perfect health. This speech brought important ideas on what needs to change in Cuba to the government in a civilized way. It impacted the revolution greatly by bringing hope to people and causing them to fight back harder.
